Blog #9 Argument and Counter Argument
My argument for my paper is that the higher education system has shifted towards high privatization to obtain large profits. The students are being made into consumers by these for profit institutions and are trying to get the most money out of them that they can. It was not always like this though, a few decades ago the student was the number one priority and colleges were there with all the help that the students needed. Somewhere along the line colleges realized that they could make a lot more money by changing their system to one of high privateness and that is what has occurred in the past few decades. One counterargument I found to this is that this new system is actually beneficial. One source that I have says "it makes colleges and universities more responsive to the needs of
students and employers alike, in addition to generating efficiencies
that can enhance the institution’s goals, whatever they may be" (Johnstone, pg1). I highly disagree with this because in my opinion the needs of the students are neglected and profits are at the top of the list for these institutions.
